Thinking of giving your home a new look this Spring? Like to stay on top of the latest interior design trends? Here at Emerson Park Decorators we don’t just provide a first class decorating service to households throughout Essex, we also offer our advice on decor to suit all kinds of homes.
With that in mind, we’ve listened to what our customers are asking for this Spring in Essex, and had a quick look though our trade magazines to bring you the low down on what’s hot in decor for 2016.
The “Glamily” Room
Remember that old family room of yours? Perhaps you call it the lounge or the living room? Well, it’s set for a big revamp this year. No more trying to keep it minimal with contemporary sofas, a single feature wall and a stash of boxes to hide the kids toys in. This year it’s all about sumptuous home comforts. Think lavish materials, boldly coloured walls and lots of seating to house lots of family and friends. Books, lamps, rugs and big prints are once again in fashion, meaning you can feel free to ditch the minimal and indulge yourself with bit of clutter instead.
The Office is back!
Gone are the days of working from your laptop in bed. Everyone has finally remembered that a dedicated working space is much better for you than being crumpled up in bed, and it allows you to sleep better too. Where space allows, a separate office room is just about the best you can ask for. If your rooms are already being used, how about a space under the stairs or corner of your lounge or bedroom instead? Go for bright colours on the walls, a feature desk and a comfortable chair to sit at. Pay attention to bookshelves and storage spaces, this year stop hiding them and put them one display. Bright, bold plain colours and easier to work with than very busy printed or patterned wallpaper.
Let It All Hang Down
After what seems an eternity of built in spot lights throughout the house, the pendant lamp is finally making a come back. This means you can once again turn your ceiling light into a feature, and use soft lighting to enhance your wall colours and wallpaper prints. Use large lamps to add to the glow in bigger rooms. Soft, vintage lightbulbs are also still very much on trend.
Viva La Fireplace
Again, after an endless trend for very minimalist rooms, the feature fireplace is making a comeback. Instead of removing or hiding them, people are starting to once again arrange their furniture around the fireplace according to style website www.Houzz.com. Even non-working fireplaces that are just for effect are seeing an upturn, as we turn to a more traditional look for our homes this spring. Wallpaper your fireplace wall with something stunning to make it stand out even more.
Mix It Up In The Kitchen
Finally, our kitchens are starting to look different too. Whilst there is nothing to dislike about a clean, shiny white kitchen, designers are breaking up the boring by adding mismatched cabinets to create a more homely look. Painted cupboards can add depth and a variety of cupboards if they are painted by a really good decorator, and what’s more they don’t cost the earth as you can up-cycle the ones you already have!
